Hailing from the village of Funsi in Ghana's Upper West Region, Noella Wiyaala is a singer-songwriter who creates a fusion of West African folk songs and Afro-pop. She sings in her native Sissala and Waala dialects as well as English - regularly combining all three languages within her songs. After years of performing for the locals in her village, she won the Vodafone Icons Reality Show competition in Accra, opening up her music to a wider audience and connecting her with music industry professionals. She now travels the World, playing concerts and festivals in locations such as the UK, Norway and Switzerland. Wiyaala, meaning "the doer" in her local Sissala dialect, is an advocate for female empowerment and works as an ambassador for UNICEF Ghana and fights for the abolition of FGM and Child Marriage.
